Porthminster Kitchen Lee and Mick

Porthminster Kitchen serves up a refreshing, playful take on Cornish cuisine, introducing a menu of smaller plates and lighter options which combine global flavours, fresh local ingredients and creative cooking.

We have stripped out much of what is unnecessary; dairy and gluten take a backseat in favour of fresh and exciting textures and flavours.

Porthminster Kitchen enjoys awe-inspiring panoramic views from its location in the heart of St Ives. From your vantage point above the harbour, escape the hustle and bustle and relax on our sun-drenched terrace, or gaze out from huge windows and take in the 180° view.

The Kitchen

Porthminster Kitchen is the second restaurant from the team behind Porthminster Beach Café – an award-winning restaurant with an enviable reputation for serving the best Cornish seafood in an amazing setting right on one of St Ives’ most beautiful beaches.
Our new location offers an alternative dining destination above the hustle and bustle of the town’s harbour, combining the same high standards with a fresh new approach and an equally awe-inspiring view.
Watch fishing boats return with their catch and admire a vista which has inspired many generations of artists, including Anthony Frost whose work adorns the walls.
The restaurant is bathed in the famous light of St Ives, combining simplicity and clean lines with a modern urban feel; rustic wood flooring, stainless steel, industrial lighting and stark white tiles are complimented by huge windows and mirrors.
Executive Chef Michael Smith spent his formative cooking years in Melbourne, before departing for London and finally coming to rest in St Ives, where he made a name for himself at the award winning Porthminster Beach Café.
Here he added a refreshing Asian and Mediterranean twist to Cornish seafood, creating signature dishes which have now been immortalised in Porthminster Beach Café – The Cookbook.
Head Chef Lee Wilson was born in South Africa and arrived in St Ives 11 years ago. Although he has worked with Michael for many years, Lee’s other experience includes spells at Peirre Koffman’s in Knightsbridge and Jason Atherton’s flagship restaurant Pollen Street Social, as well as a stint as personal chef to the Qatari Royal Family.
